In 1789, the ship HMS Bounty was seized in a mutiny, and Captain William Bligh with 18 loyal crew members were cast off in a small open launch about 23 feet long, with minimal supplies.

Over the next 47 days, in an open boat across treacherous seas, Bligh navigated about 3,600 nautical miles to safety — an incredible feat of endurance, navigation, leadership, and mutual support.
